It begins Saturday.

I wish it was going to be a day game. I think baseball is really missing a bet by not having the game scheduled where more kids can watch or see it - it isn't like the ratings will be that much less on a Saturday afternoon as opposed to Saturday night.

I now have to leave the path of my dear friend [livejournal.com profile] billroper and walk on in solidarity with [livejournal.com profile] khaosworks toward what will hopefully be a Red Sox victory in the Series.

All I ask is that there be no Bill Buckner moments.

Please?

In other news, we finished up a very successful Three Weird Sisters/YAAD gig at 5 Seasons Brewery last night. Started loading the car at 17.30 and got home at 01.45, so it was a long day. Setting up gear in a new space (particularly an odd one with high loft canvas ceilings and lots of glass walls) is difficult, but I think (with some help from one of the North Georgia floating sound crew members) we finally got it to sound good.

I need a new board - the current 8+ channel Spirit mixer isn't going to cut it, I need to splurge on a 16 channel with at least 4 independent monitor mixes available. Sigh. That's what happens when we expand our instrument count exponentially.

COuld do a *lot* worse than one of the new Behringers.

Mixers

I've used the Mackie 1642-vlz Pro LOTS and they are solid and sound good:

The Eurorack UB2442FX-PRO is cheaper, but I don't know how good it sounds (as I've never used it). I tend to have a bias against Behringer, but that's just me. :)

All my experiences with them have left me feeling they are "junky". I guess I don't always buy that cheaper is better, especially with sound gear.

I do have a Bass V-Amp, and have no complaints - but there is no comparison if you put it beside my Line6 Pod ProXT. The Behringer products cost less for a reason, it's not like you are getting the same product for half the price. The margin on these things is small, which means you are somehow getting half the product for half the price. When it comes to a mix board, that bothers me.

On the other hand - live applications are more forgiving than studio, so it will probably work out for you. And at that price, it's fairly disposable. :)

....of course, the detour to Waffle House had something to do with that late night!!! ;-)

Thanks again for all you do. We really appreciate you, and I, for one, will be most happy to write you that check (yay!); you earned it.

I made it back fine though! I got five hours of sleep before being a kindergarten chaperone to the pumpkin farm. (Early night tonight) Thank you for the sound, and the cool flute solo, and everything really. I had such a good time singing and playing with y'all last night! :-)
