Debate Done
Oct. 4th, 2012 09:30 amI think the best summary of claims and counter-claims is http://factcheck.org/2012/10/dubious-denver-debate-declarations/ (FactCheck.org and PolitiFact.com kept me relatively sane during the entire thing, a rather stunning feat as
ladyat will agree).
In my opinion, given the amounts of Exaggeratium being dumped on the public by both sides and purely on the debate itself (not by stand on the issues), Governor Romney came out looking much better than the President in this debate. The Governor stayed on message and had his statements so coherently organized that he seldom seemed to be going over time even when he was. President Obama on the other hand wandered off topic, missed opportunities to focus on HIS message, seemed disjointed, and came off trying to use extra time to bring his thoughts together at the end of every statement or response.
Ultimately, though, I can't be the only one in the US who wishes Jim Lehrer would have just walked on stage and dope-slapped the both of them for running roughshod over him and the rules that had been set forth at the beginning of the debate. I felt like it was a Monty Python sketch ("That wasn't 5 seconds just then!" "Oh, yes it was!" "Oh, no it wasn't!")
