Climbing Mt. Fuji

One of the things on my "life list" has always been to climb Mt. Fuji. Since
ladyat and I are going to the Worldcon in Japan this year, there seems to be no better time to do so.
After much research, some issues have arisen. The last formal 2-day (overnight hike so you are at the summit for sunrise) tour seems to be on August 20, which is way too early before the con to arrive (
ladyat doesn't have that much vacation time). After the con is after the end of climbing season, meaning the huts and other amenities aren't open. Add to that the fact that, while we are in decent shape, we would prefer to climb along with someone who knows what to watch out for (altitude sickness, etc.), what to do about it, and can speak Japanese.
Considering that AKICILJ, anyone have any suggestions or already made plans for something like this closer to the con?
