I'm not quite sure how to take this.
In another universe, I should probably friends-lock this post. However, I don't believe that anything on the Internet is truly private, so why bother?
"Conflikt, a NorthWest Filk Convention" has (unofficially, I guess, since it isn't on their web site but is on comments to
tarkrai's LJ entry) announced their dates as January 25-27, 2008.
Contrary to what seems now to be popular belief, the schedule tropism for GAFilk is not the first weekend in January. It is the weekend before MLK weekend. This was done to easily avoid ever conflicting with people's January 1 plans, including those of the concom.
Which means that, in 2008, our dates (signed into hotel contract) are January 11-13. That would be 2 weeks before the new convention.
It's a hell of a thing. Since we usually only publicize our dates the year before, there's every possibility we'll be seen as the Bad Guys, trying to stomp on the poor new convention.
I really want to be the good guy and wish them the best of luck. It is hard.
