The Speech To Restore Sanity

I had my doubts about the whole "Rally to Restore Sanity or Fear". I feel sometimes that when the only response to someone's deeply held belief is ridicule, there's no possible solution. If we don't respect one another enough to take each other seriously, there is no hope. On both sides it is name-calling, playground "I got you last", childish stubbornness and temper tantrums. To put it on an international stage, with signs that mock actual issues, didn't seem like something that would help.
But.
It produced this speech. Which I think, despite various snarky NPR commentators whining about the breakdown of satire when something like this follows, is one of the most important things I've heard in a decade or more.
I feel honored to have been able to hear it.
